About Michele Macomber

As a professional myofascial trigger point therapist, (say “MAY come burr”) I have been using either manual or cold laser therapy to help free people from their chronic and acute pain for over 25 years.  I was board certified (CMTPT) in 1994, after completing well over 600 hours of training in myofascial medicine.  Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual. by Doctors Janet Travell and David Simons’ is my key medical textbook.

My training was by apprenticeship to Nancy Shaw, MS, MA, MTPT.  At the time, she was working closely with Dr. Travell to improve the medical alignment of our modality.  This afforded me the great honor of meeting Dr. Travell on more than one occasion.  I studied for a year at Nancy’s school and office, The Myofascial Pain Control Clinic in Springfield, Virginia.   Then I completed my training with an internship at Mid-Hudson Myotherapy in New Paltz, New York.  Original Bonnie Prudden School graduate robin birdfeather, CMTPT was and still is my mentor.

My practice began at the Synergy Dance and Healing Arts Center in Washington, DC. where I was a SynergyDance (dance movement as healing art) instructor as well as an Associate Polarity Practitioner (APP).  Adding myofascial trigger point therapy rounded out the multidisciplinary Center’s offerings of yoga, polarity, acupuncture and massage.  I later worked at the LifePath Health Center in Bethesda under Leanard Wisneski, MD, and then for many years now from my home office in Wheaton, Maryland.  While I take a strictly scientific, western approach with my treatment protocol, I am not unversed in energy medicine.  As do all Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists, I assess and treat my patients holistically, providing knowledge and support, in addition to treatment, to better ensure a successful outcome.

I am a 30-year member of the National Association of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists.  In addition to being an MTPT, I hold a Maryland State massage license (LMT).
